I love the book Alphabet Rescue. Although it's not a "fire safety" book, it's an adorable book about letters taking a ride on a fire truck!

And of course, no fire safety week in Kindergarten would be complete without a craft!

Here's a sample of our fire safety craft. Didn't this little guy turn out adorable? I love crafts where each one looks unique. They don't all turn out looking identical, and that's okay!

I give students various sizes of square and rectangle pieces of construction paper and model for them how to cut off the corners. (We also practice this earlier in the year when working on our scissor skills.) The best part about this craft, is there is no right or wrong size. It doesn't have to be perfect.

The red body is a 9x12 piece of construction paper cut in half. We round two corners to make shoulders.

The head is a 9x12 piece of construction paper cut in sixths, so one piece of paper is enough for six students. We round four corners to make a head.

The red hat is about a 3x3 piece of paper. Then I cut red small strips just a little wider to make the bottom of the hat.

The yellow strips are 3x6. I tell students to cut them apart (and I show them how). They don't ever come out straight across or the same size, and I think that's what cute about this craft!

For the hair I give them a small rectangle and let them cut to size. Some like shorter hair, some like longer hair. I model how to make both.

Then we draw on the eyes (you could use wiggly eyes), a mount (you could use pink paper), and the black pieces on the jacket (you could use black construction paper).

This packet contains a couple of picture sorts such as sorting between tools we use in the classroom and tools firefighters use and a hot and cold picture sort (shown above).

After we sort the pictures as a class, I put the pictures in a pocket chart center. Students complete the recording sheet as a follow-up activity. We use bingo dabbers, but students could certainly use crayons as well.

Here's one of the no prep fire safety printables included. I love this page because it is awesome for class discussions and it helps students know what to do in different situations. I think it's so important to have discussions with kids about "what if", so they will be prepared if or when the time comes. We complete this activity as a class and talk in depth about each picture and situation.

Here's a look at some of our fire safety centers for Kindergarten. All of the centers come with "I Can" visual directions, to promote independence.

During the Station Sounds activity, students say the name of the three pictures. They determine which two pictures has the same beginning sound. They color the two pictures that have the same beginning sound. (A picture name cheat sheet is provided for the teacher!)

And now a look at some of the math centers:

I love when we can practice two skills with one activity! Students identify the number on the ten frame. They record the number in the first circle. They count on to fill in the numbers that come after.

Help students learn to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency. Students identify the number sequence they should call if they need help. (This is also a great opportunity to discuss what is an emergency and what is not an emergency). Students can dab the number sequence or use their pointer finger and a stamp pad to show the number.

This fun little math partner game makes an easy peasy center. Each group needs a dot cube and their own color came piece. Students start on the fire hydrant. They take turns rolling the dot cube and moving that many spaces.

Towards the end of the game, students need to roll the exact number to reach the end. For instance, if they need to move two more spaces to finish the game, they must roll a two (or a one to bring them closer). The first player to reach the end of the firefighter is the winner.
