When teaching young people math, numbers 11 – 20 can often be a difficult concept to grasps. Having a strong foundation in number sense is essential for long-term math success. It is important for our students to develop a deep understanding of individual numbers, their quantities, and how they relate to other numbers. Number sense is developed through lots of practice and exposure.

This resource will provide your students with fun, interactive, and hands-on activities to practice counting, number recognition, and one-to-one correspondence. The activities are perfect to use all year long and will make planning a breeze. Preparing these activities are also super easy!

Included are 12 different counting activities for numbers 11-20. Every activity includes multiple versions so that you can use the activities more than once without having to re-introduce and re-explain directions. These activities using basic classroom supplies such as plastic math cubes, base ten blocks, dry erase markers, and mini erasers {if you have them}.

These activities are great for morning work bins, fast finisher activities, math centers, or small group work.

What's Included:

1.Game Boards: Students can play independently or with a partner. Students will spin the spinner and try to be the first player to 20. {3 activities included}

2.Tens and Ones Towers: Students will identify the number on the mat. They will use plastic cubes to build towers to show the tens and ones units. {2 activities included}

3.Movies and Mail Sort: Students will identify the number represented and match it to sorting mat. Numbers are shown in base ten, ten frames, tally marks, and tens and ones statements. {2 activities included}

4.Show Below: Students will read the number on the mat. They will use plastic math cubes, mini erasers, or other small classroom manipulatives to count and show the number on the mat. A ten frames version is also included. {2 activities included}

5.Bee and Butterfly Counting Mats: Students will determine the number that is shown on the mat. They will use small manipulatives or the theme counters included to show the number on the mat. {2 activities included}

6.Adding More/Counting On: Students will identify the target number on the mat (located at the top). They will begin counting with the starting number (located at the bottom). They will use manipulatives or the theme counters included to count on and show the number. {2 activities included}

7.Number Puzzles: Students will identify the number to put the number puzzle together. Numbers are shown in ten frames, base ten, and tens and one statements. A color and black and white option is included. {4 activities included}

8.Count and Cover: Students will identify the number represented on the mat. Numbers are represented as tally marks, base ten, ten frames, and tens and ones. They will use the included number cards to cover the spaces or you could have students use magnetic numbers. {5 activities and 3 number card options included}

9.Clip Cards: Students will determine the number, number statement, or picture needed to complete the card. They will use a clothespin to clip their answer. {5 activities included}

10.Form the Number: Students will link plastic math cubes to form the number on the mat. {2 activities included}

11.Ten Frames Mats: Students will use manipulatives such as plastic cubes to show the number on the ten frame. They will use a dry erase marker to fill in the tens and ones statements. {2 activities included}

12.Spin and Cover: Students will a paperclip and a pencil to make a spinner. They will spin the spinner and determine the number they spun. They will cover a corresponding picture that shows the quantity. They will continue to spin and cover until the game board is full. {6 activities included}
