Throughout PreK and Kindergarten, we work hard to help our students master letter recognition and letter sounds. Building this relationship is a critical step in setting the foundation for learning to read and write. It is important for students to be able to quickly identify letter names and know the sounds that they make.
Good news! This resource is part of a BUNDLE! Check it out here: Beginning Sounds BUNDLE.
These activities are super easy to prep! Just print, laminate, and cut along the straight lines. They make great morning work tubs, fast finisher activities, or literacy centers.
This activity includes six different themes for matching letters and beginning sound pictures. Themes include: pencil & paper, lunch bag & sandwich, fish & fish bowl, camera & picture, cookies & cookie jar, and a generic picture match.
This activity also includes two options for recording sheets, which are completely optional.
Picture names for all activities are included.
Students will match the letter card to the picture card. Students can complete this activity using a pocket chart or on the carpet.
These cards also are great to use for partner cards. Ahead of time set aside the cards that you will need, making sure that each card has a matching pair. Pass a card out to each student and have them find their matching pair. Those two students become partners in the activity ahead.
It is a good idea to begin this activity in a small group teacher led setting so that students can become familiar with the correct picture names.
