Beginning Sounds Centers & Activities:
This beginning sounds literacy packet is filled with activities and printables to teach beginning sounds to Kindergarteners. Themes included in this packet: all things western, including cowboys, cowgirls, horses, horseshoes, cactus, wanted signs, sheriff badges, boots, hats, and more.
Contains a total of 10 easy to set-up center activities, tons of practice pages, whole group and small group activities, and detailed, easy to follow instructions for teachers and students. All activities are common core aligned with standards included.

Here’s an idea of what is included:
–Whole Group and/or Small Group Sorting Activity: “Wanted” Theme – Students will match the picture card to the wanted poster. Includes sheriff badges to use as a visual assessments in a group setting. Great for pocket chart activities. (Also includes black and white practice pages for each individual sound — 2 for each vowel)
–Small Group Sorting Mats: Students will match the beginning sound picture cards to the letter mat. Includes a self-checking option and black and white practice pages for additional practice.
–Secret Code Letter Sounds: Students will look at a series of pictures all with the same beginning sound to determine what the secret letter is. They will record the secret letter on their paper.
–Beginning Sound Dab (3 Included): Students will select a picture card and use a bingo dabber to dab the beginning sound on their paper.
–Letter Sound Mats (4 mats included): Students will match the picture to the letter to show the beginning sound.
–Horsin’ Around with Letter Sounds: Students will use a clothes pin to clip the beginning sound. They will record the letter on their recording sheet.
–Lasso the Letter Sounds: Students will identify the beginning sound of a given picture and record their answer.
–Write and Wipe Mats: Students will identify the beginning sounds of a series of pictures and record their answers on the recording sheet.
–Same Sound Showdown: Students will identify two pictures with the same beginning sound.
