This activity was created to help students build phonemic awareness skills. It works great in a small group setting.
To prepare this activity, print, cut apart, and laminate the activity cards. Optional “I Can” visual directions are included. Front covers are included if you’d like to punch holes in the cards and store the cards on a metal ring. There are 90 cards included. You can divide these to make multiple sets.
To make this activity self-checking, you can put a small color-coded dot on the back of each card prior to laminating.
Students will need clothes pins, plastic cubes, or mini erasers to cover their answers.
Students will say the name of the set of pictures to determine if the beginning, middle, or ending sound changed. They will clip or cover the green space for beginning sounds, yellow space for middle sounds, and red space for ending sounds.
10 no prep practice pages are also included. These pages can be used as a follow up center activity, extra practice, or homework. Picture names are at the bottom of each page, in case you’d like to send these home for homework.
