Description

These February Morning Tubs include 21 literacy and math activities with an adorable Valentine's theme.  The skills included in this resource are ones that your Kindergarteners are probably working on during the month of February. It is packed full of games and interactive, hands-on activities to keep students engaged and learning all month long.

These kindergarten morning tubs are easy to prep – most are just print and go. They use basic classroom supplies such as plastic cubes, mini erasers, play dough, dot cubes, and spinners. Most activities include more than one version allowing you to differentiate for your students.

Each activity includes teacher friendly directions as well as an “I Can” visual directions page to promote independence. They do not include recording sheets which makes them ideal for morning tubs and early finisher activities. But you can certainly use them for math and literacy centers too.

This file includes editable pages for the sight word activity. This will allow you to add your own sight words and personalize the covers. Please note that you will need to open the file in Adobe to edit. You will be unable to edit when viewing the file in your web browser.

Here's a look at what's included:

Syllable Build: Students will say the name of each picture and clap to determine the number of syllables. They will stack that many cubes on top of the picture. (2 activities included)

Roll and Rhyme: Students will roll the dot cube and read the corresponding CVC word. They will find a CVC word that rhymes and cover it. They will continue to roll and cover until all of the words have been covered. (5 activities included)

Special Delivery: Students will say the name of the CVC picture on the mail cart. They will match the letter cards to show the onset and rime. It is recommended that you go over the picture names with your students before they complete this activity independently.

Flip and Cover | Onset and Rime: Students will select a card and say the name of the CVC picture. They will identify the onset on the card and find the matching rime on the mat and cover it.

Build the Word: Students will select a picture card and place it on the mat. They will say the onset and determine the rime. They will use mini erasers or other small manipulatives to form the rime on the mat.

Bump Games: Students play with a partner. Players will take turns spinning the spinner and covering a picture match with a plastic cube. If a player rolls the same word they can “BUMP” the other player off the space. If the player rolls the same word again, without being bumped off, they can add a second cube to “lock” the space. Locked spaces cannot be bumped. The first player to use all of their cubes is the winner. (2 activities included – CVC Word Families and Beginning Digraphs)

Valentine Words: Students will select a vocabulary card and place it on the mat. They will follow the prompts on the mat to write the word with a dry erase marker and/or build the word using magnetic letters. You can punch a hole and put the picture vocabulary cards on a metal ring for easy storage. (2 options of work mats included)

Monsters Love Sight Words: Students will select a sight word card and place it on the mat. They will build the word using a dry erase marker or magnetic letters. This activity is editable so you can add your own sight words.

Real or Nonsense: Students will read each CVC word to determine if it is a real or nonsense word. They will use the color code on the right side of the mat to cover the spaces. (3 activities included)

Roll, Read, Cover: Students will roll a dot cube and read the color word. They will cover a space on the activity mat to match the color word. They will continue to play until all of the spaces are covered. You can use this as a partner game. Students take turns and the first player to complete their picture wins. (5 activities included)

Dough Creations: Students will use play dough to make snakes to form the dough gingerbread theme pictures. (9 picture cards included)

Candy Orders: Students will select an order card. They will count out the pieces to fill the order. They will add the pieces together to determine how many were added to the box of candy. You can have students use a dry erase marker to write the sum. (Set 1: sums to 5, Set 2: sums to 10)

Count and Build: Students will determine the number represented on the mat. They will either count out math manipulatives like mini erasers to show the number – or – use math cubes to build a tower to show the number. (Numbers to 10 and 20 are included)

Roll, Add, and Cover: Students will roll two dot cubes and add them together to determine the sum. They will find the number that matches and cover it. They will continue to play until all of the spaces have been covered. You could also use this as a BUMP game activity. (2 games included)

Color-Code Cover: Students will solve each addition or subtraction sentence to determine the answer. Using the color code on the right of the mat, they will cover the space to show their answer. (6 activities included)

Build the Number: Students will select a picture card and determine the number represented. They will use mini erasers or other small manipulatives to form the number on the mat. (4 sets included: number words, making 10, tally marks, and ten frames)

Roll and Race: Students will roll the dot cube and count to determine the number they rolled. They will cover that make spaces on their game mat. The first player to cover all of the numbers wins. In order for a player to win, they must roll the exact number needed – if they have one space left, they must roll a one to win. Numbers to 20, 30, and 50. (3 games included)

Count and Show: Students will identify the number in the middle section. They will use manipulatives to count and show one less and one more. (Numbers 1 – 20 are included)

Count and Cover: Students will count to determine the number represented on the card. They will find a corresponding number on the activity mat and cover it. (Numbers 11-20)

Spin and Show: Students will spin the spinner to determine the number. They will count and show that many manipulatives on the mat. (2 versions included – show the teen number and show ten more).

Roll and Remove: Before the game begins, players will place each of their 20 manipulatives on their game mat, one per circle. To Play: Players will take turns rolling the dot cube and counting to determine the number they rolled. They will remove that many manipulatives from the game board. Players will continue to take turns rolling and removing the manipulatives until a player clears their board. To win, the player must roll the exact number needed. For example, if a player has one left on their game board, they must roll a one to win the game. (2 games included)
