Description

CVC words are usually the first words a student learns once they have mastered consonant and vowel sounds. These short words are perfect for helping students grasp the importance of the letter and sound relationship within words. Some students grasp this skill easily, while other students need lots of practice and repetition. It is a skill that we spend a lot of time working on in Kindergarten and 1st grade.

Good News! This packet is part of a bundle: Short Vowel CVC Words {Activities to teach CVC Words}

Kids love playing games, so they will love the activities included in this resource. They'll have so much fun playing with partners and small groups that they won't realize they are learning. This is a must have for teacher's bag of tricks! The activities will make teaching {and learning} letter sounds exciting, engaging, and hands-on!

This packet includes 9 different games. Each game has multiple version. These activities would be perfect for morning work, literacy centers, small group guided reading, or fast finisher tubs.

All activities are easy to prep. Just print, laminate, and cut apart. Students will need mini erasers or plastic linking cubes to use as game pieces.

Here's a peek at what's included:

Hide and Find: You'll need a pocket chart for this activity. Place the CVC word cards in a pocket chart. Hide the special picture cards behind the words. Call on students to read the words and guess which words the special cards are hiding behind. (2 versions included)

Roll and Read: Players will roll a dot cube and count the dots. Using the code at the top of the game mat, they will identify the CVC word. They will cover a corresponding CVC picture. If all of the corresponding pictures have been covered, the player skips their turn. The first player to cover all of the pictures on their mat is the winner.

Spell It: Without looking, students will select a letter card. If they can use it to spell a CVC word on their game mat they can keep the letter card. If not, they put the letter card back. The first player to spell all of the words on their mat is the winner.

Read and Cover: Players will take turns selecting a game card and reading the CVC word. If the player reads the word correctly, they can cover a picture on their game board. If they are incorrect, the card goes back in the container. If a player draws a “special card”, they must follow the directions on the card.The first player to cover all of the pictures on their game board is the winner.
