Description

This Kindergarten morning work resource includes 21 back to school activities for your morning tubs/bins. Activities include letters, numbers, counting, editable name practice, colors, patterns, fine motors, and more.

The skills included in this resource are designed to be just right for incoming kindergarten students. It is packed full of interactive, hands-on activities and is the perfect way to introduce your students to morning tubs or centers. These Kindergarten morning work activities are fun and provide just enough challenge so that brand new students are engaged but not frustrated.

These activities are easy to prep – most are just print and go. They use basic classroom supplies such as plastic cubes, magnetic letters, mini erasers, play dough, dot cubes, and dry erase markers.

Each Kindergarten morning work activity includes teacher-friendly directions as well as an “I Can” visual directions page to promote independence. They do not include recording sheets which makes them ideal for morning tubs and early finisher activities. But you can certainly use them for math and literacy centers too.

This file includes editable pages for the sight word activity and the name activity. This will allow you to add your own student names, sight words, and personalized front covers. Please note that you will need to open the file in Adobe to edit. You will be unable to edit when viewing the file in your web browser.

Here's a look at what's included:

Magic Letter Match: Decide if you want students to match uppercase to uppercase or uppercase to lowercase. Students will identify the letter and find the matching magnetic letter. They will place the letter on the mat to make a match. Another option is to have students write the matching letter with a dry erase marker.

Color Code Cover: Students will select a card and identify the uppercase and lowercase letter pair. They will find the matching letter pair on the mat and cover it using the cube color at the bottom of the card.

Find and Cover Letters: Students will select a card and identify the uppercase letter. They will find the matching uppercase letter on the mat and cover it using a cube or mini erasers.

Letter Cards: Students will form the letters using a dry erase marker, play dough, or mini erasers.

Number, Letter, or Word?: Students will look at each space to decide if it is a number, letter or word. They will use the color code on the right to cover the spaces.

Tickets Please: Students will determine if the ticket shows a letter, word, or sentence. They will match the ticket to the ticket booth mat.

Letter Squares: Students will look at the uppercase letter in the middle of the square. They will clip or cover the letters that match.

Editable School Sight Words: Students will select a sight word card and place it on the mat. They will build the word using a dry erase marker or magnetic letters.

School Words | Vocabulary: Students will select a vocabulary card and place it on the mat. They will write the word with a dry erase marker or build the word using magnetic letters.

Editable Name Activities: Students will place their name tag at the top of the mat. They will build their name three times on the mat using dry erase markers, magnetic letters, and play dough. A generic construction theme is included where teachers can select the materials used.

Roll and Cover Colors: Students will roll a dot cube and identify the color. They will cover a space on the activity mat to match the color. They will continue to play until all of the spaces are covered. Students can link the cubes together to make the picture once their mat is covered.

Dough Creations: Students will use play dough to make snakes to form the dough pictures.

Count the Letters: Students will identify the picture and count the number of letters in the word. They will clip the number to show their answer.

Show Below: Students will get an activity mat, a card, and the matching color cubes. They will use the color cubes to make a matching cube picture on the mat.

Cube Patterns: Students will say the colors to identify the pattern. They will use plastic cubes to copy the pattern on the card.

Find and Cover | Numbers: Students will select a card and identify the number/shape. They will find the matching number and shape pair on the mat and cover it with a plastic cube.

Count and Cover | Numbers: Students will select a card and count the dots. They will find the matching number and color pair on the mat and cover it using the cube color.

Number Hunt: Students will identify the number and find the matching magnetic number. They will place the number on the mat to make a match. Another option is to have students write the matching number with a dry erase marker.

Count and Cover | 5 Frames: Students will identify the number represented on the five frame. They will find the number on the mat and cover it.

Roll, Count, & Cover: Students will roll the dot cube and count to determine the number. They will find the number that matches and cover it. They will continue to play until all of the spaces have been covered. (You could also use this as a BUMP game activity.)

Count and Build: Students will determine the number represented on the mat. They will count that many cubes and build a tower to show the number.
