How to Play the Numbers to 20 Winter Math Game

This Spin to 20 game is both easy to prep and easy to play. This makes it the perfect option for kindergarteners.

First, print the game mat on cardstock and laminate it for durability.

To start the game, students spin the spinner on their game mat to see which partner goes first. The student with the largest number (or smallest number if you want to switch it up) goes first.

To play the game, students take turns spinning the spinner on their game mat. They read the number that they spun aloud.

Then, they count and add that many game pieces to their ten frame. The first player to fill up their ten frame to 20 is the winner!

To finish the game, students need to spin the exact number on their game mat to end the game.

If they have 18 spaces filled and they spin a 3, they lose their turn. The same goes with the number 19, as they would need to spin a 1 in order to win the game.

As students play the game and practice counting, they'll quickly learn to look at the ten frame and immediately recognize the number represented.

For example, they'll begin to understand that a full ten frame is 10 and they can count on from there to determine the number. This is a great number sense skill.
